kyoto, japan
a new perspective in kyoto.
i spent a couple weeks in kyoto, japan of 2025. i enjoyed spending my time shooting a wide range of scenes and interests. shooting this was a blast and so was the editing. i really tried to push out of my comfort space in both areas. i delved deeper into color grading, with a mostly blue leaning scheme. B&W, colors, depth, emotion. i have a lot of favorite photos across the years, but a large amount come from this set. i mostly focused on shooting a scene or stage then letting people and life come through the zone.
i am always surprised at what i can put out when given the chance. i have less favorite photos here than from other series, yet i feel they are also some of the strongest, consistently. i enjoy the staged composition, the disconnected feel, the vibrant color trend. photography is a way to cheat reality into how we want it seen. here i’ve decided to make the reality feel quieter. my god i do love these photos.
