"good mode"

i am very proud of this one. it took me about a month and a half to compose, and another two months to paint. a depiction of old vs new, dark vs light, cool vs warm, nature vs humanity, and most of all, masculinity vs femininity. from left to right, then back to the beginning again.

“good mode” was chosen as the title to embody good feelings and simplicity. greenery. nature. i’ve been very into japanese rap-pop music lately and wanted to bring that feeling to this name. an open and loose feeling, something easy to enjoy. (all the lofty, museum type names felt too on the nose)

made with oil paints and linseed oil on canvas. 48x24 inches.

extra notes: i have gone back and forth on the painting’s feeling. i feel like the process only finally pulled together at the final end. tapping a few gold stars in the top left seemed to be the final bow. every inch of the canvas has its own distinct feel that add to the overall image. i’m especially happy with the overgrowth of green (only escaped and then perpetuated by the doorway and woman). the eyesight follows from leftside statue to the middle, right, top of the doorway, the a flows comes back towards the left again and back down to repeat. its tough to pick a favorite part, but i’d have to say the woman’s apron, the little green area between both statues or the top left corner with the flower/star.
