marcus, lately

never have i written my name so much as in these past few week. marcus landeros, marcus lately, marcus editor in chief. good lord. does anyone else wanna write this thing?

as everyone knows by now, through consistent application of eager one-sided conversations, i have effectively announced i am making two websites. and that i’m excited about making two websites. and that i’ve got big big plans. everyone has been so polite about listening… the first time ‘round. my apologies people! soon you all can take a deep sigh of relief, when the sites are finished (soon) i can funnel all my energies here and there (The Sagasu Review) and gracefully SHUT UP about it.

this post is probably my final piece of load bearing work to build up what i’ve been making here. something i’ve been putting off till the very end. i initially began making this site, then i made that sub-header navigation button up there for “The Sagasu Review.” then i made a micro site for it on here, to feel out the process. then i bought thesagasureview.com domain. then i was full speed down a 10 foot wide rabbit hole on making that website happen. a few weeks later, of staying up till 7am, and now i’m back here finishing up this project. great news is i learned A LOT over on the other site, in pursuit of visual and functional perfectionism. so coming back here i saw that i was doing everything wrong and rebuilt it all again.

i’ve worked on foundational structures, i’ve worked on site accent colors (rust, indigo, gold, green, rose, purple: superciliously titled “verisimilitude” (he says superciliously…)), i’ve worked on personal hand drawn affects across the site, i’ve worked and reworked explanation blurbs, i’ve edited more images of myself than i’d ever care to see again. it’s still not quite where i’d like it, but i do like that the site feels dark, clean, and the feeling of being illuminated, not by lamplight but by words, pictures, personal touches and sparse color work. its dark, but its cozy, welcoming.

hey man, if anyone ever tells you taking time off to travel, camp or adventure is a waste of time and money (i’m told often by many people) are just plain wrong. stop wasting life and enjoy it! i recently took a relaxing trip out to Yosemite to get away from whatever it is that haunts me here in Phoenix. i’m happy to say i found a little more purpose and fortitude in what it is i want to pursue. part of that are these sites. i got tired of thinking about it and decided to just do it. i guess life is like that.

yeah the site name is a little cheesy and i’m probably paying for a website that no one will visit. that’s fine by me. i can spam posts here all i like. as much as would like to post every new thing of my life on instagram, i think i’ll spare everyone the polite engagement (some people there sure could spare the rest of us…).

i’m looking forward to more fine tuning and filling out the photography section for now. specifically “commentary.” later i’ll be uploading high-res proper scans of my artwork as well.

welcome to marcus, lately.

sincerely,

marcus L.
